The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a liturgical rite through which individuals are welcomed into the Catholic Church in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.
The preparation for OCIA helps deepen one’s personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through participation in His Body, the Church. OCIA is designed to convey the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith to non-Catholics interested in joining the Church. OCIA takes an experiential approach that mixes classroom learning along with prayer, trips to devotional sites, charitable outreach, and participation in liturgical celebrations. You may participate the preparation for OCIA to simply learn more with no commitment to become initiated.
What about older children? This rite is for any individual over age 6 who has reached what the Church refers to as the "age of reason". The preparation process is adapted for children to meet their individual needs.
